A call-out to Sheriff Baca and the LASD,                                 4-4-2012

I am issuing you a challenge to debate, I am calling you out.
In reference to the operation of DUI checkpoints by the LASD: These checkpoints are being operated in violation of the court orders and guidelines. These checkpoints violate our rights, do not serve to effectively arrest drunk drivers, and are a waste of our tax dollars.

I am calling you out to publicly debate me and defend these ‘operations’.

I am ready willing and able. Accept my challenge. If you refuse to, or fail to respond, I will publicly assert that you have refused my call out. The implications of your refusal will be yours to bear.

  1. They are programs to waste taxpayer money. They are funded by grants from the State with tax money the State gets from the Feds. It is about funneling money to unionized law enforcement, not public safety.
  2. They are about conditioning citizens to illegal searches. The searches are ‘unreasonable’, hence a violation of our 4th Amendment rights. Thirteen States have either passed legislation prohibiting them or State Courts have found them correctly to be violations of our unreasonable search protection.
  3. On Jan 13th, 2012 The LASD conducted a checkpoint in Santa Clarita. While the LASD has refused repeated Public records requests for the OTS grants, based on the staffing report of 15 deputies and eight vehicles for this operation, the taxpayers paid out appx $12,000.
  4. What were the results? One thousand seventy seven drivers had their rights violated. Six were forced to undergo illegal Field Sobriety tests. No DUI arrests were made, three traffic citations were issued. This is what FIFTEEN deputies accomplished in 120 man hours (plus the additional hours of planning, staffing, grant filing etc etc. ) and as a bonus we had our rights violated! A copy of this report is available, I have it .

CONCLUSION: If the LASD was interested in apprehending drunk drivers, would not those 15 deputies driving the streets observing vehicles not have been far more effective, and without violating our rights?
Lets have a public debate and discourse. Let’s have Sheriff Baca, LASD Sgt. Cohen or Capt. Becker answer questions. I have and continue to challenge the LASD and all other agencies to debate me on this, they refuse as they know they cannot overcome the facts, even when presented by a burglar alarm salesman from Reseda!
