#A Since Jan 2012 the City ordered the L.A. Sheriff’s Dept. to seize Free Speech vehicles under a new city ordinance that make it illegal to ‘advertise’ on a vehicle. The ‘advertisement’ is illegal irrespective of whether it is commercial, political religious or social. All vehicles remain “in custody". There is no judicial review, no due process of this seizure of private property. They are “allowed to seize it”. This attack is upon our 1st Amendment right to Freedom of speech and 5th Amendment right of not having our property taken without due process.
The Federal Court case hearing challenging this ordinance is March 26th, 2012.
As an added bonus, the taxpayers get to pay out damages for the actions of the City Council tyrants.
#B Their endorsement of the ‘professionalism’ of the L.A.S.D. when Mitrice Richardson goes ‘missing’, after walking out of the Lost Hills Station, 9-17-2009, having been cited (her credit card was rejected for a restaurant meal), taken to the station (so they had a pretext to impound her vehicle,$$), her remains are found in a remote cyn. a year later, and the ‘professional’ LASD put her remains in a trash bag, and removes them, before a coroner arrives, in direct violation of State law, and the Dept investigation found no wrong doing! www.FindMitrice.info
#C Call out the City Council for refusing to provide a public debate over unconstitutional DUI checkpoints. The Supreme Courts of eleven states have found checkpoints to be a violation of citizen’s 4th Amendment rights, thirteen have now prohibited them by statute or judicial ruling!
They are warrantless searches and a direct violation of our 4th Amendment Rights!
It’s all about taking cars and the $! 7 out of 8 vehicles impounded at these checkpoints have nothing to do with drunk driving! Of those impounded for ‘lack of a drivers license’ 5 out 6 are for a license ‘suspension’ in the form of a court order for an alleged, not proven, failure to appear on a citation. The Sheriff’s Dept will even impound vehicles from drivers who have a VALID out-of state driver’s licenses (Chavez vs. Sheriff L. Baca) ! They illegally seize vehicles and deny ALL vehicle owners their 5th Amendment Right of Due Process to a hearing. The Dept. determines whether it had ‘authority’ to seize a vehicle, there is no judicial review, their decision is final. Citizens have no rights. Their only option is to pay the extortion fees (minimum $1600 avg.) to have their vehicle released. The City of course gets kick-backs in ‘release fees’ and “franchise fees”.
